Academic & Global Smart Farming Journey: From PSTU & BSMRAU to South Korea (KPC) and Atatürk University (Türkiye)
By Md. Mamunur Reza (Assistant Program Director, APCU-BADC PARTNER & PhD Fellow)
Modern agricultural science is inherently borderless. Over the past fifteen years, my academic formation has evolved from coastal agronomy in southern Bangladesh to horticultural plant physiology in Gazipur, smart-farm automation in South Korea, and doctoral studies in eastern Anatolia, Türkiye.
1. Foundations in Coastal Agriculture & Disaster Resilience at PSTU (2007–2012)
At Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU), situated in the cyclone- and salinity-prone southern delta of Bangladesh, I completed my B.Sc. in Agriculture (Hons.) followed by a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Disaster Management. Studying agriculture directly in the coastal belt—alongside a cross-border SAARC study tour across India, Nepal, and Bhutan—instilled a lifelong commitment to climate-resilient seed systems and abiotic stress tolerance.
2. MS in Horticulture at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU / BSMRAU, 2011–2014)
MS Supervisor (Major Professor & Chairman of Advisory Committee): Professor Dr. Md. Azizul Hoque, Professor, Department of Horticulture, Gazipur Agricultural University, Gazipur-1706 (gau.edu.bd/azizul) • Reg. No.: 11-11-2725 (Summer 2014) • Thesis: “Influence of GA₃ on growth, yield and shelf life of broccoli”.
Pursuing my Master of Science (MS) in Horticulture at Gazipur Agricultural University (formerly BSMRAU) (CGPA 3.66/4.00) under the supervision of Professor Dr. Md. Azizul Hoque, I worked as a Graduate Research Fellow investigating how exogenous plant growth regulators (Gibberellic Acid — GA₃) and micronutrients (Boron) interact with genotypes to regulate curd initiation, hollow-stem prevention, shelf life, and yield in broccoli, resulting in 6 co-authored peer-reviewed journal publications.
3. Smart Farming & Deep-Tech Incubation in South Korea (KIPA OASIS & KPC, 2021)
After winning 1st Place Honors out of 3,147 submissions in the national iDEA ide@THON competition under the ICT Division of Bangladesh, I completed the 6-month residential Bangladesh Frontier Startups Business Preparation (Precision Agriculture) fellowship in Seoul with the Korea Productivity Center (KPC) and Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA)—earning the OASIS-1, OASIS-2, and OASIS-4 intellectual property and startup commercialization credentials.
4. Doctoral Fellowship at Atatürk University, Erzurum, Türkiye (2024–Present)
Selected under the World Bank-funded PARTNER Project fellowship of the Ministry of Agriculture, I joined the Department of Horticulture at Atatürk University in Erzurum, Türkiye in October 2024 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ertan Yıldırım. Our conceptual focus explores smart controlled-environment horticulture and precision irrigation strategies for vegetable seedling production.
সুপার ফুড মাইক্রোগ্রিন: সহজ উপায়ে বাড়িতে ও বাণিজ্যিকভাবে উৎপাদন কৌশল (Super Food Microgreen)
Authored by Agriculturist Md. Mamunur Reza (কৃষিবিদ মো. মামুনুর রেজা)—a comprehensive Bengali guide to home and commercial microgreen production, nutritional profiles, tray substrates, and indoor crop management.
