Protected Polyhouse Drip Fertigation & High-Value Capsicum Cultivation at BADC Kashimpur (Video Walkthroughs)
By Md. Mamunur Reza (Assistant Program Director, APCU-BADC PARTNER & PhD Fellow)
Protected cultivation inside UV-stabilized polyhouses and insect-proof net houses—coupled with precision root-zone drip fertigation—enables year-round production of high-value crops in Bangladesh even during heavy monsoon rains or winter cold spells. At the Kashimpur Horticulture Development Center (HDC), BADC, Gazipur, we recorded a series of field engineering videos demonstrating how net-house microclimate control and inline drip emitters maximize yield and fruit quality in sweet pepper (capsicum), tomato, and cucurbits.
1. Protected Net-House & Polyhouse Drip Fertigation Engineering
In our field walkthroughs (ouMPGYLGj-g and mp0NaD3zfYI), we demonstrated the complete hydraulic layout required for protected vegetable beds:
- Head Control & Filtration Unit: Disc/screen filtration, pressure gauges, and Venturi fertigation injectors to deliver soluble NPK and micronutrients uniformly across every bed.
- Raised Plastic-Mulched Beds with Twin Drip Laterals: 16mm LLDPE drip laterals with pressure-compensating inline emitters positioned beneath silver-black mulch film to suppress weeds, conserve soil moisture, and prevent foliar fungal diseases.
- High-Value Sweet Pepper (Capsicum) Production: Achieving uniform fruit set, vibrant pericarp coloration, and export-grade fruit weight under insect-proof net houses at BADC Kashimpur (
