BSMRAU Horticultural Research, DAM Sylhet Baseline Survey & SAARC International Study Tour (India, Nepal & Bhutan)
By Md. Mamunur Reza (Assistant Program Director, APCU-BADC PARTNER & PhD Fellow)
Event Period: 2006 – 2014 | Institutions: Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) & Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU / Gazipur Agricultural University)
Before joining the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) in July 2013, my scientific foundation in horticulture, seed technology, and agricultural value-chain analysis was forged through intensive academic training and field research across Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Bhutan.
1. B.Sc. Ag. (Hons.) at PSTU & SAARC International Study Tour (2006–2011)
- Academic & Co-Curricular Leadership: Completed B.Sc. Ag. (Hons.) at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) (CGPA 3.28), alongside earning the Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Disaster Management (Oct 2015), Computer Literacy (126/11), and English Proficiency (127/11) certifications.
- SAARC International Study Tour (India, Nepal & Bhutan): Conducted cross-border agro-ecological field visits across India, Nepal, and Bhutan as well as nationwide study tours across Bangladesh to observe subtropical, temperate, and alpine crop production systems, research universities, and agro-processing industries.
- Youth Leadership & Community Service: Served for 3 years as Sergeant in the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) (2004–2006, Tri-Services defense youth organization under the Ministry of Defence) and since 2007 as an active member of BADHAN blood donor organization.
2. MS in Horticulture & Research Associate at GAU / BSMRAU (2011–2014)
MS Supervisor (Major Professor & Chairman of Advisory Committee)
My Master of Science (MS) in Horticulture (Reg. No. 11-11-2725, Summer 2014) at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU, formerly BSMRAU) on the thesis “Influence of GA₃ on growth, yield and shelf life of broccoli” was supervised by Professor Dr. Md. Azizul Hoque, Professor, Department of Horticulture, Gazipur Agricultural University, Gazipur-1706 (Official Faculty Profile • Supervision Record Sl. #3). Together we published 6 peer-reviewed journal papers on broccoli GA₃/boron physiology, potato varieties, and gladiolus germplasm.
- Influence of GA3 on Broccoli Yield (Jan 2012 – Jun 2014): Conducted factorial field trials at the Department of Horticulture, BSMRAU evaluating four concentrations of Gibberellic Acid (0, 25, 50, 75 ppm GA3) across four application methods (24-hour pre-transplant seedling root dip vs. foliar sprays at 4, 6, and 8 weeks). Demonstrated that 50 ppm GA3 combined with a 24-hour seedling dip achieved a maximum curd yield of 26.91 t/ha.
- Boron & Genotype Interaction in Broccoli (Published 2015): Evaluated four broccoli genotypes (Premium Crop, Early Green, Green Calabrese, Late Calabrese) across four Boron regimes (0, 1, 2, 3 kg B/ha), establishing that Early Green fertilized at 2.0 kg B/ha produced the highest commercial yield (32.19 t/ha), published in the International Journal of Experimental Agriculture (2015).
- PGCC on Seed Technology & Cereal Seed Storage: Completed the 3-month in-house Post Graduate Certificate Course (PGCC) on Seed Technology at BSMRAU (Issued Jul 2014), conducting collaborative research on cereal seed storage physiology.
- Data Collection Officer — DAM Horticultural Marketing Survey (Jan – Jun 2013): Conducted the regional baseline survey on Marketing Channels of Horticultural Products in Sylhet Division funded by the Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM), Ministry of Agriculture, alongside project evaluation surveys on homestead organic farming in Gazipur villages.
